LA500A Opto compressor is our MAC comp in an API500 series format. It is a full ground-up redesign of the LA3A/LA2A type compressor with several extra features. We have kept all the audio oddities of the side chain to keep the compression signature and extreme compression depth but added extra ratio of 5:1 to 10:1 and side chain HPF switching FLAT, 100Hz & 200Hz so the low end can be fully compressed or removed from the side chain to let the low end breath and make it easy to balance the compressed sound.The audio path has been fully redesigned for better signal to noise and headroom while still having clarity and warmth so that it is at home tracking anything or paired on stereo buss duty. The LA500 is made so even at extreme settings is it hard to make the comp sound anything but fantastic.

• 3 x PCB’s have all parts values directly on overlay for fast building.

• Meter switchable Gain Reduction / LA OFF (meter led off) / VU by toggle switch
• Electronic balanced input to handle extreme input levels without distortion.
• Large 32mm chicken head input level control for easy setting of compression level.
• Large 32mm Makeup level pot with 0 to 20dB of gain.
• Ratio switchable 3:1, 5:1 & 10:1 by toggle switch
• Sidechain High Pass Filter switchable FLAT, 100Hz, 200Hz.
• Huge output transformer (same size as Neve LO1166).
• Internal jumper for output ground lift.

The ultimate 312: CAPI VP312DI with Litz-wire Transformers

We have another item for made-to-order sales: the CAPI VP312DI-VPR-Litz¹, two different DI configuration options. A very faithful replica of the API 312 mic pre with additional active or passive (you choose) Direct Inject (DI) HiZ Jack that has the same path as the mic input; so you get the option to use the Pad on the DI as well. The preamp comes with Greyhill Stepped Gain control Knob for easy recall, only using high grade audiophile components and a specially designed Litz wire 2503 Output Transformer².

Optional mods and custom OpAmps also possible on request.

Our first active opamp summing unit prototypes arrived!

March 18, 2023

We’ve received the first batch of prototypes of our active Summing mixer version: Tascam/DSUB25 to XLR/TRS combo Jack. “E-OpAmp-Z Summer” (PCB v1.1A). It uses a Texas Instruments NE5532ADR dual low noise opamp.

We also ordered two 3D printed PC-ABS cases for testing. They’re still in production, to be shipped soon for evaluation.

Today we received our order of colour modules for saturation, coloration and compression for mods to pre amps.

We’re now able to offer 1176 style 1:4 or brick wall compression ¹ via a blend knob in API 312 pre amp clones from link audio design ². these high quality pre amps also feature variable high & low pass filters, phantom power, Pad and a very useful addition of a fader for the channel independent of the gain knob among other neat updates to the original design well suited for modern recording studio setups and project studio work whether hybrid or purely analog. You can also choose custom OpAmps from original vintage API 2520s and high quality replicas like the CAPI CA-0252 ³ thereof from various vendors to the famous red dot opamp ⁴. A perfect proven combination for tracking/recording and mixing drums, acoustic instruments and vocals for rock, punk, metal, electronica,…..

In addition we can offer mods from tape saturation to tube coloration, Neve-style transformer sound for a big and warm low end added to the mid-forward punch that API pre amps are famous for and made history recording most of the classic rock records during the 70ies and from there on.
